Mooresville Native,
Wife Killed in Wreck

Charles Edward (Eddie) Morrow Jr., 35, and his 24-year-old wife, Joann Horton Morrow of Mineral Springs, were killed in a two-vehicle crash near Charlotte Thursday night.

Morrow was the son of Mrs. Dorothy Morrow of 357 Glenwood Drive, Mooresville, and the late Charles Edward Morrow, while his wife was a daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Jock Horton of Mineral Springs.

Randy Schefer and his wife, Patricia, of Sumter, S.C., passengers in the Morrow operated vehicle, were injured. Mrs. Schefer also lost her unborn child as a result of the accident.

According to Captain Paul Cash of the Mecklenburg County Police, the wreck occurred at the intersection of N.C. Highway 51 and Elm Lane in Mecklenburg County at 7:50 p.m.

Morrow was operating a 1982 Toyota, traveling north on Elm Lane and has stopped at the intersection.

While Morrow was stopped, a 1982 Ford Escort, driven by Rubin Sedgewick Bowers, 25, of Winding Ceder Trail, Charlotte, hit the Morrow car.

Investigators said Bowers lost control of his car, which was northbound on N.C. Highway 51, and hit a median and stop sign before crashing into the Morrow vehicle.

Bowers was charged with driving while impaired and two counts of felony death by vehicle.

Pending trial, Bowers is at liberty under a $5,000 bond.

The Schefers, visiting the Morrows at the time, were scheduled to catch a plane at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport early Friday morning for a flight to Indiana.

Patricia Schefer, riding in the right rear of the Morrow-operated car, as treated for a dislocated shoulder at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, according to the investigating officer. Officers said her husband was treated for cuts and bruises.

Bowers was treated for cuts and bruises at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte and was held overnight for observation.

Morrow was a management consultant at Modern Management Inc. in Charlotte. He attended West Point Military Academy two years before transferring to North Carolina State University where he graduated in 1971.

Morrow is survived by his mother and one sister, Mrs. Michael McConnell of Mooresville.

Mrs. Morrow is survived by her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services for the Morrows were conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Mineral Springs United Methodist Church and burial was in the church cemetery.
